This year, University of Melbourne's Networked Society Institute and the Victorian State Government are working in partnership with Jiangsu Province, China on the Smartwear for workplace health and safety research to develop a wirelessly-charged, smart, wearable system to monitor the health and safety conditions of staff when working in difficult environments.

Dr Peng Hao leads the Jiangsu research team in this project. In this talk he will deliver a brief of the wireless power transfer technology, comparing coupled and uncoupled methods. Particularly, this talk will focus on the coupled method based on magnetic resonance.

Dr Hao will speak to how his team have introduced this method to applications of smart devices, particularly in three typical use cases, home appliance, wearable device, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). He will share his thoughts in these areas, including the benefits of wireless power transfer, the challenges in both technology and business. Dr Hao envisions a cordless world, and believes that wireless power transfer can be a lifestyle by combining our technology and business.

About our speaker

Dr Peng Hao received his BS degree and MSc degree from Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST), in 2001 and 2004, respectively. In 2011, he received the PhD in Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He was an Electrical and Electronics Engineer in Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute from 2004 and 2006. Dr Hao is the Founder and CEO of BigLink Technology (Zhenjiang), Co, Ltd. He holds about 30 patents, and has more than fifteen years of experience in wireless sensor networks, communication, and wireless power transfer, including academic research and product R&D.
